QEH Relocates Post-Mortem Services During Renovations

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has temporarily relocated all coroner’s and hospital post-mortem examinations to Tudor’s Funeral Home in The Ivy, St Michael, with effect from yesterday.

In a release, it stated this was as a result of its mortuary undergoing major renovation and modernisation to improve the safety, functioning and overall quality of post-mortem services.

In addition, identification and viewing for post-mortem cases will also take place at the funeral home for the duration of the project.

The renovation works were scheduled to commence yesterday and expected to take eight to ten months to complete.

The QEH said the project formed part of its ongoing upgrading efforts and will include the installation of a state-of-theart negative-pressure ventilation system, improvements to clinical and family areas, and other critical infrastructure upgrades.

“This project represents an important investment in modernising one of the hospital’s essential clinical facilities. These upgrades will significantly improve the environment in which post-mortem services are delivered, strengthen infection prevention measures and ensure that families receive services in a facility that reflects modern health care standards,” Gerry Warner, acting director of support services, explained in the release.

The QEH assured the public that the temporary relocation would not affect the quality or integrity of post-mortem services, with hospital staff continuing to work closely with families and the relevant authorities throughout the process.

Anyone required to identify or view a loved one in connection with a postmortem examination will be provided with the necessary guidance and support, it added.

The hospital apologised for any inconvenience and thanked members of the public for their patience. ( AC)
