One of the most worrying aspects highlighted by a High Court judge yesterday as she sentenced a manslayer was how easily he got the gun.
Justice Pamela Beckles expressed the concern in Supreme Court No. 3 when she sentenced Renaldo Stevenson Kirkley Carter, 41, of 1st Avenue Vauxhall, Christ Church, to 12 years in jail.
Originally, Carter denied murdering his cousin Jason Antoine Carter on January 1, 2015, but at the end of his trial last June, a jury found him guilty of manslaughter.
Justice Beckles decried “the ease with which persons are able to access firearms in this island – how you were able to access the firearm in question. Too many young lives have been lost as a result and too many other lives have been ruined in consequence”. (SD)
