A man in St. Michael was found guilty of having sexual intercourse with a minor under 14 in 2008. The victim, now 25, provided testimony during the trial.
The St Michael man who was earlier this month on trial in the No. 4A Supreme Court, accused of having sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 14 between November 1 and 30, 2008, has been found guilty.
A jury unanimously reached that verdict Tuesday afternoon, after retiring for just over an hour and a-half. He remains on bail until May 28, by which time his pre-sentencing report should be completed.
The complainant, who is now 25, testified to living with her mother and sisters at the time of the incident. Then, as an eight-year-old Class 3 student, she would assist her next-door neighbour sometimes.
The stepdaughter, who was called as a defence witness, said that the bedrooms in the house were all off limits to the neighbour’s children, and whenever they visited, either she or her mother would be at home. Further, she could not recall seeing her father and the girl together that day. (SD)
