Chrystal Cummins-Beckles Places Third in Regional Female Calypso Competition in Montserrat

Calypsonian Chrystal Cummins-Beckles places third in the Regional Female Calypso Competition in Montserrat, while Terri Lyons from Trinidad and Tobago takes first place.
Calypsonian Chrystal Cummins-Beckles has added another trophy to her shelf after placing third in last month’s Regional Female Calypso Competition in Montserrat.
Eleven contestants faced the judges and at the end of the night, Trinidad and Tobago’s Terri Lyons cleaned up with House Cleaning and Calypso. Her countrymate Kerine Tiny Williams-Figaro was second, beating Chrystal by a single point after singing To You With Love and Fruits Ain’t Ripe Yet.
The December 30 show which came off in Carnival City, Little Bay.
She is not new to this and to date she’s the only calypsonian in the competition’s history to have done a hat-trick winning her first Queen Of Queens title in 2012 and again two years later in 2014 and then 2016, when it was held biennially. It has since been held in annually in 2017, barring the COVID-19 pandemic. Chrystal placed third in 2018.
To qualify contestants should have won their national competitions or be the highest placing female.
She sang her 2023 Pic O De Crop entry and a new song, Check De Scene, which was written by her, Blackafyah, who works with her with the Junior Monarch contestants, and Mighty Gabby. (DS)
