Barbadian artiste Narii Vasquez will soon be releasing her first EP. Titled Locked In, the EP contains nine tracks and will be hitting the airwaves on September 23.
Narii Vasquez said though some might think that it’s more “album territory”, the songs are intentionally concise and straight to the point.
“You can listen to the entire EP in around 20 minutes. Genre-wise, I wouldn’t put it into just one category. It blends tropical pop, R&B, Caribbean influences, and elements of dancehall,” the artiste told the Weekend Buzz from her home in Croatia.
Vazquez said she has been developing a sound that feels sweet, tropical and melodic.
“I’m excited for people to finally hear the full project and experience the story it tells from beginning to end.”
The EP features collaborations with the multitalented Barbadian artiste Sanctuary Vibes and Rapture MUZIQ, a gifted artiste from The Prague.
Sanctuary Vibes appears on Sexual Healing and Flexing, and also contributed as a songwriter on several tracks, including Loyal and Sometimes. The EP also features Rapture MUZIQ.
“ Rapture MUZIQ and I collaborated on the song You Make Me Wanna, which brings another exciting energy to the project.”
Noting that the concept for the EP starts with the title track, Vasquez said it sets the tone for the entire project, encompassing confidence, growth, relationships, and stepping into “who I am as an artiste”.
Vasquez acknowledged her “tremendous growth” over the last year, adding that one of the biggest things she has learned is embracing her versatility while still staying true to her own identity.
While some in the music industry compare her style to that of Rihanna and South African singer and songwriter Tyla Seethal, which she sees as incredibly flattering, the artiste maintained that she wants people to hear that “I have my own voice, my own perspective, and my own sound”.
