DP World Donates Cricket Kits to Barbados Girls Cricket Club during 'Royal Sixers' Tournament

DP World donated 250 cricket kits to Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club, with remaining kits to be distributed to schools. Sandals Foundation supported a cricket camp for young female cricketers.

Multinational Logistics Company DP World donated 250 cricket kits to the Barbados

Royals Girls Cricket Club earlier this month with the remainder kits set to be

distributed to schools at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

The Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club received the donations on August 9 at the

end of the inaugural ‘Royal Sixers’ competition – a female 6 a side softball cricket

tournament- which was held in collaboration with the Barbados Cricket Association

(BCA). Team BCA GEMS were the eventual winners of the 6 a side softball

competition with Team City of Bridgetown Credit Union coming second and Team

Smile Group Travel finishing third.

The competition was part of a recently concluded four-week Summer Cricket

Coaching Camp at the 3Ws Oval, which was bolstered by vital support from the

Sandals Foundation. The foundation’s sponsorship of daily lunches ensured that

over 60 young female cricketers, aged 7 to 16, were fed throughout.

This summer camp offered an opportunity for these aspiring cricketers to develop

their skills under the guidance of experienced coaches, an experience which was

described by Manager of Marketing and Communications at the BCA, Steven Leslie

as “a fantastic opportunity to highlight the next generation of female cricketers in

Barbados.” He added “We believe it will be a stepping stone for future cricket stars.”

Roland Butcher, President of the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club, emphasised

the importance of the foundation’s contribution. “The lunches provided by Sandals

were more than just meals—they were a vital part of the girls’ ability to stay focused

and energised throughout the camp. This kind of support shows our athletes that

their hard work is valued, helping to inspire them both on and off the field.”

David Hinds, Public Relations Manager for Sandals, expressed the foundation’s pride

in being part of the initiative. “We believe in the power of sport to unlock potential,

and it’s been incredibly rewarding to contribute to the development of these young

athletes. We look forward to seeing them grow into strong competitors, both in

cricket and in life.”

In total, the leading provider of global smart end to end supply chain logistics

delivered 1,750 cricket kits across India, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates

this year.
