Barbados Medicinal Cannabis Licensing Authority (BMCLA) has granted approval to Amalgamated Security Services (Barbados) Limited and Island Therapeutics Inc. for operating in the medicinal cannabis industry, bringing the total number of approved businesses to nine with a combined 25 licenses.
The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) is establishing a regional office in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean to address developmental needs in the region.
The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) has confirmed the departure of CEO Dr Jens Thraenhart, stating that they have decided to go in a different direction. An interim replacement is acting until a permanent CEO is found. Thraenhart has reportedly taken up a position with the African Asian Union (AFASU) in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Barbados Licensing Authority (BLA) is implementing new registration number plates for commercial vehicles. Transition to the new plates is required based on vehicle renewal dates starting in September 2023. Some vehicles already display the new plates. Registration fees can be paid online or at the Barbados Revenue Authority branches. Commercial vehicles include delivery vehicles, trailers, tractors, and more. Taxis and other similar vehicles are excluded. Further information can be obtained by contacting the BLA.
