Upcoming Election for Athletic Association of Barbados Presidency Faces Uncertainty
January 5, 2024
"Uncertainty looms over the upcoming election of the Athletic Association of Barbados (AAB) president, with no nominees and a rescheduled meeting due to lack of quorum. Outgoing president Catherine Jordan will not be running for re-election."
Just mere weeks ahead of the 2024 athletics season which includes the Paris Olympics, there is a serious cloud of doubt over who will take up the reins of the Athletic Association of Barbados (AAB) from outgoing long-serving president Catherine Jordan in the upcoming election on January 29.
A well-placed source confirmed there were no nominees for the post of president at the now-rescheduled election meeting.
In line with the association’s constitution, the meeting was subsequently pushed back to later this month due to a quorum not being met when it was first convened on December 28.
Jordan, who was at the helm since January 2013 when she took over from Esther Maynard confirmed that her hat will not be in the ring for the presidency of the local athletics governing body after serving in the top position for ten consecutive years.
“I’m not running for president in the next election. There’s nothing to say about it. It’s a fact,” the former secondary school principal said while stating that one would have to wait and see if she contests a lesser post in the election. (RW)
