Barbadian sprint hurdler Shane Brathwaite withdraws from World Athletics Championships, leaving Barbados with a three-member team. Sada Williams set to face tough competition in the 400 meters. Jonathan Jones and DeSean Boyce represent Barbados in the men's 400 meters.
World-rated Barbadian sprint hurdler Shane Brathwaite has pulled out of the upcoming World Athletics Championships scheduled for Budapest, Hungary.
This now leaves Barbados with a three-member team of Sada Williams, Jonathan Jones and DeSean Boyce for the prestigious meet scheduled for August 19 to 27.
Brathwaite is a three-time World Championships finalist.
Meanwhile, bronze medallist at the last edition, Sada Williams, will face her toughest challenge among a world class field in the 400 metres which includes defending champion, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who announced her availability after a recent pregnancy.
Williams will also come up against Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Britton Wilson of the United States, Marileidy Paulino of Dominic Republic, Salwa Eid Maser of Bahrain, and Natalia Kaczmarek of Poland.
Jones and Boyce will fly the Barbados flag in the men’s 400 metres. (RW)
