With Barbados under a storm watch as Tropical Storm Tammy approaches, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has activated its Emergency Management Plan and some services will be suspended by midday Friday.
These include out-patient clinics (including Belleville), elective surgeries and the pharmacy.
The Accident and Emergency Department remains open to the public.
“We at the QEH serve a vulnerable population and management has made these decisions in the best interest of patients, staff and visitors. If the weather does not deteriorate, management will review the suspension of services previously mentioned,” a release said.
People with questions about the urgency of their medical condition, can call Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS/Help Desk) at 536-4800 using regular or WhatsApp calls from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and a medical team will advise the best course of action.
The QEH will issue periodic updates on their website www.qehconnect.com and @qehconnect on Instagram and Facebook, along with traditional media sources to keep the public informed. (PR/SAT)
