Barbados Licensing Authority Faces Staff Challenges Amid Surge in Driving Test Demand

Barbados Licensing Authority faces challenges meeting demand for driving tests due to limited staff. Acting Chief Licensing Officer cites staff shortages affecting test scheduling and operations.
The Barbados Licensing Authority (BLA) is struggling to keep up with the number of people taking driving tests.
Following numerous complaints from driving instructors and students, Acting Chief Licensing Officer Lynette Williams said yesterday they were experiencing staff challenges.
“The issue is that we only have five testing officers and one has been on sick leave for quite a while now, so we are only operating with four. Also, please be mindful that persons have to go on holiday – we have no control over that – and sometimes if a person calls in sick, obviously we don’t have any control over that either.
“We have a scheduler that would have a number of persons scheduled to do the test but because of our limited resources in terms of testing officers, we are only able to do a certain number of tests per day,” she told the MIDWEEK NATION.
