Ellerton moved into third place on the penultimate night of Barbados Football Association Premier League action at the Wildey Technical Centre on Wednesday.
Fresh from a big win over Paradise last week, the St George-based team claimed another win over a top three opponent by defeating Brittons Hill United 2-1.
A Marco St Hill goal put Ellerton ahead in the 62nd minute, while T’shane Lorde equalised for Brittons Hill in the 73rd.
With time running out, Ellerton captain Shakille Belle converted an 88th minute penalty to hand his side three critical points.
With both sides having completed their allotted 18 games, Brittons Hill, who were runners-up in 2025, have amassed a total of 35 points to lie second behind Weymouth Wales, who have already secured a fifth straight title with a game remaining on 40 points.
Ellerton are third on 34 points, but will finish the season in fourth or fifth position, depending on the outcome of Thursday’s game between fourth placed Kickstart Rush and fifth placed Paradise.
Both teams have 33 points coming to that game, but with a goal difference of 38 for Kickstart Rush and 37 for Paradise, even a draw would see both sides leapfrogging Ellerton, who have a goal difference of 15. A win for either side would see them advancing to second position on 36 points, and bumping Brittons Hill United down to third.
In that case, Ellerton would end the season in fourth position and the loser of tonight’s game fifth.
The season ending nightcap game at 9 p.m. tonight features champions Wales and Eyre’s Meatshop Pride of Gall Hill.
Victory would see Wales extending their lead at the top of the table, while a Gall Hill upset would catapult the Christ Church-based side into sixth position ahead of UWI Blackbirds. Both teams currently have 19 points.
