Multimillion-Dollar Port Side Fire Station at Bridgetown Port Nearing Completion, Minister Assures Addressing Safety Concerns

The multimillion-dollar Port Side Fire Station at Bridgetown Port serves both the port's safety needs and responds to fires within Bridgetown and its surroundings, allaying concerns over the move from The City to The Pine. Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams confirmed the increased capacity for firefighting in the St Michael area.
A multimillion-dollar fire station at the Bridgetown Port is close to completion, and Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams says any fears people had over the Barbados Fire Service headquarters moving from The City to The Pine should now be allayed.
Speaking during a walk-through of the facility yesterday, he disclosed that the Port Side Fire Station would not only serve the safety needs of the port, but also respond to any fires within Bridgetown and its immediate environs.
“I know that there were some questions when the decision was taken to move the fire headquarters to The Pine, as some are concerned about the ability to respond to any fires in Bridgetown. We have, in the combination move to The Pine as well as this Port Side Fire Station, doubled the capacity with regards to our ability to respond to anything in the St Michael area,” Abrahams said.
He said the Port Side Fire Station would house specialised equipment and a dedicated unit for port emergencies, including medical emergencies. However, unlike the fire station at Grantley Adams International Airport, this would not be confined to the port. (CLM)
