Justice Pamela Beckles took Jon-Erik Kei Grason Thomas to task yesterday for plying his ex-girlfriend with an abortion-inducing drug, as she gave him a starting sentence of eight years in prison.
The woman was forced to have her pregnancy medically terminated five months later.
In the first case of its kind in Barbados, the judge told Thomas, a senior compliance officer with an insurance company, that his actions stemmed from selfishness.
“This case is tragic and has arisen due to your selfish behaviour and self-centredness,” Justice Beckles told Thomas, who was in the No. 5 Supreme Court yesterday.
“It was all about you. You thought of no one else. Your culpability in this matter and the harm that you have caused cannot be overstated or denied.” (HLE)
