Police Issue Safety Tips for Public During Christmas Season: Be on Guard, Stay Safe

December 11, 2023
During the Christmas season, the Barbados Police Service issues safety tips, including not allowing unauthorized contractors into your home, keeping your purse close, and making noise if attacked.
In the midst of the Christmas season the police are warning members of the public – especially the elderly- to be on their guard.
Yesterday the Barbados Police Service issued a number of tips for those on the road and in their homes.
Residents are reminded not to allow contractors to enter their home pretending to be government officials without asking for identification; calling the specific government department or a trusted friend or the police.
In case someone does enter the home, “and you cannot exit the house” police are advising occupants to go quickly to a room, secure yourself it and immediately call the police.
“If you arrive at home and think some person has entered your home, do not enter the house. Go to a neighbour or friend and call the police, and wait for the police to arrive,” the police advised.
Below are some of the other tips:
Always keep your purse close to you and do not place it in the shopping cart.
Avoid travelling with large sums of money or with too many bags as too many bags restrict your movement.
If you are attacked on the street, make as much noise as possible to draw attention to the situation. You can wear a whistle around your neck as an added alert method.
