A top executive with leading car manufacturer BMW foresees significant growth in Barbados’ electric vehicle (EV) market.
Speaking during a media briefing at the company’s showroom at Automotive Art in Welches, St Michael on Friday, Alexander Luhn, BMW Group Latin America’s Regional Sales Operations Director of Latin America and the Caribbean, expressed optimism about the burgeoning market in Barbados.
He highlighted the country’s strides in embracing renewable energy, citing the surge in interest toward electro-mobility in the face of the global climate crisis.
However, he pointed out that attention needed to be paid to charging infrastructure.
“One of the challenges we encounter is charging infrastructure, a concern we’re vigilant about round the clock. However, given Barbados’ geographic size, range anxiety shouldn’t be a significant issue.
“Ensuring peace of mind regarding charging is pivotal. Home chargers provide that assurance, eliminating barriers to going fully electric. For those without this solution, reliance on public charging infrastructure becomes crucial. Fortunately, we’re observing growth in this aspect across the Caribbean,” Luhn said.
He disclosed that significant partnerships have so far been established within the Latin American market and the Caribbean to facilitate hassle-free charging for customers relying on public charge stations.
Reflecting on Automotive Art’s assumption of BMW’s dealership from MQI, Luhn expressed contentment with the new dealer’s adherence to BMW’s standards.
