Outgoing Chairman of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) Renee Coppin has implored operators in the tourism industry to “uphold the highest standards” when it comes to good behaviour and the way they treat their teams.
Delivering her final report at the end of a two-year tenure as chairman, Coppin reminded BHTA members of their responsibility to their employees while reflecting on contentious issues of labour relations and a wages agreement which were a prominent feature of her stewardship.
A hotelier, Coppin contended BHTA members had the same rights as their team members and to freedom of association. She said if an agreement and the process of negotiation no longer served them effectively, they had the right to decertify. (GC)
